چکیده
Physical modelling of musical instruments is an exciting thus the method that is used for producing the digital new paradigm in digital sound synthesis. The basic idea is sound signal. to imitate the sound production mechanism of an acoustic A fundamental difference between the physical musical instrument using a computer program. The sound modelling approach and other synthesis techniques is produced by such a model will automatically resemble that that the former tries to imitate the properties of the of the real instrument, if the model has been devised in a sound source (type of excitation and resonator, proper way. In this article we review the history and present resonances of a soundboard, etc.), while the latter techniques of physical modelling. It appears that the many focus on the properties of the sound signal heard by seemingly very different modelling methods try to achieve the listener (waveform, spectrum, etc.). It is astonishthe same result: to simulate the solutions of the wave ing that none of the earlier music synthesis techniques equation in a simplified manner. We concentrate on the

Virtual Acoustic Musical Instruments: Review and Update
This article gives an overview of selected developments in musical sound synthesis based on physical models of musical instruments—sometimes called “virtual acoustic” sound synthesis. Emphasis is placed on techniques which yield the highest playability and sound quality in real time at a reasonable computational expense.
متن کاملSound Controlled Musical Instruments Based on Physical Models
This paper describes three simple virtual musical instruments that use physical models to map between live sound and computer generated audio and video. The intention is that this approach will provide musicians with an intuitively understandable environment that facilitates musical expression and exploration. Musicians live sound exerts ‘forces’ on simple mass-spring physical models which move...
متن کاملVirtual Instruments in Virtual ooms - A Real-Time Binaural Room Simulation Environment for Physical Models of Musical Instruments
In this paper high-quality model-based sound synthesis of plucked string and woodwind instruments is combined with room simulation and auralization techniques. The result is a real-time virtual three-dimensional room where the listener and multiple virtual instruments can be moved. The system was designed using signal processors in a multiprocessing environment. Sound radiation patterns of musi...
متن کاملAcoustical analysis of woodwind musical instruments for virtual instrument implementation by physical modeling
In the present paper, we present the development of a framework of methodologies, which allow the creation of acoustic analysis, by woodwind musical instrument recordings corpora, as well as the implementation of virtual instruments, by physical modeling. We emphasize on traditional instruments, starting with the zournas. By analysis, acoustical aspects of the instrument are derived (attack-rel...
متن کاملPhysical modelling concepts for a collection of multisensory virtual musical instruments
This paper discusses how haptic devices and physical modelling can be employed to design and simulate multisensory virtual musical instruments, providing the musician with joint audio, visual and haptic feedback. After briefly reviewing some of the main use-cases of haptics in Computer Music, we present GENESIS-RT, a software and hardware platform dedicated to the design and real-time haptic pl...
